Under the agreement between IOM and the Government of Australia, IOM engages in the resettlement of refugees who have been accepted under the funded component of the Australia?s Global Humanitarian Program. IOM works closely with the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) and other relevant agencies in arranging the logistics for the resettlement travel. IOM has assisted over 6,000 refugees every year since 1993.

The roles include risk management, development and implementation of the standard operational procedure, quality assurance, programme monitoring, donor reporting, general administration and financial management, and liaison and coordination with the stakeholders.
IOM No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS)
Provision of no-interest loan for the travel of refugee families
The IOM No Interest Loan Scheme is designed to help the settlement travel for migrants who have been granted a visa under the Australia?s Special Humanitarian Program (SHP). The objective is to help ease the financial burden to the beneficiaries through availing the repayment of their settlement travel costs by interest-free installment over 24 months period after their arrival. While the actual travel costs need to be covered by the beneficiaries, the Government of Australia has funded the program administration since 2005. Since the launch of the project, IOM assisted the resettlement of over 7,000 Special Humanitarian Visa Holders with their settlement travel to Australia.
New Zealand Government Funded Quota Refugee Resettlement Program
Assistance for the resettlement travel of New Zealand-bound refugees
IOM works closely with the Government of New Zealand (NZ) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the area of resettlement of refugees accepted under New Zealand's refugee quota. Approximately 750 refugees from various locations resettle to New Zealand under IOM auspices every year.
IOM Australia is the coordination site for the travel component of NZ refugee intake program. This program ensures dignified and safe departure for all refugees leaving their current location to travel to NZ. IOM is responsible for quality assurance; programme monitoring, donor reporting, general administration and financial management, and liaison and coordination with the stakeholders.
